September, October
As the days grow shorter and the nights become cooler, the leaves on the trees start to change colour. Reds, oranges and yellows replace the greens of summertime.
While near the seashore, the Arbutus trees don't lose their leaves; the Rockies show a different story.
In the sub-alpine forests, the needles of the Engelmann Spruce trees change colour and add yellow speckles to the mountainsides.
As the temperatures start to drop, snow accumulations on the mountainsides begin to mount.
The contrasts in the mountains also begin to mount. The browning grass in the valley floors, the green and yellow-speckled forests, and the snow-capped mountains all signal that winter is not far away.
But winter is still around the corner and this is a perfect time to celebrate Life and all it has to offer.
We recommend our Canadian Rockies Expedition tour, staying in Jasper and Banff to experience Autumn- and the mountains- all at their very best.
